What are emotions?

As a culture we have been encouraged to resist and ignore many of our feelings, and so it is not surprising that we know so little about them.

Scientists however, have been working for the past few decades, to gain insight into what emotions really are.

Negative emotions can be seen as disturbances in our energy field, like static, caused by our thoughts/ beliefs. They arise when our subconcious mind perceives a threat. This causes the primitive fight, flight or freeze mechanism to be activated. They also have biological components, rather like hormones, that enter our bloodstream, interact with our cells, and so establish a crucial link between our mind and body - emotions are literally the bridge between the things we think about and believe in, and our physical health.

Emotions far from being irrelevant and rather insubstantial are actually helpful barometers that we can use to give us insight into our problems and point the way to our healing.
